Northern Soy Marketing

About NSM

Northern Soy Marketing (NSM) is a collaboration of farmer leaders from the northern U.S. states of Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. NSM promotes the quality, consistency and reliability of northern-grown soybeans and soybean meal by working with respected researchers to provide a more accurate picture of soybean feeding quality by considering critical essential amino acids, rather than crude protein as the true measure of soy quality.

  • U.S. soybean farmers have redefined the measure of feed ingredient quality and value based on content of essential amino acids (EAAs). Learn more about Essential Amino Acids here.
  • CAAV is important when it comes to evaluating the natural balance and gross levels of limiting essential amino acids in soybeans or soybean meal. Learn more about CAAV here.

Where to Purchase

Farmers from NSM’s member states proudly produce 16 percent of the soybeans grown in the U.S. The majority of these soybeans are loaded onto rail and shipped from Pacific Northwest export facilities. It takes about 20 days transit for shipments destined for China. For some destinations, northern-grown soybeans exported from the Port of Duluth-Superior, are feasible.
